During the last two weeks, the following activities have been carried out in the Isla del Fraile the first excavations from the last seventy yearswithin the Project of Research and Valorization of the Isla del Fraile, under the auspices of the Area of Archaeology of the University of Murciawith the participation of the University of Murciathe Águilas City Council, through the Department of Culture and the Municipal Archaeological Museum of Águilas, under the direction of Professor UMU Alejandro Quevedo and Juan de Dios Hernández.

The archaeologist pointed out that "the first thing we did was to work near the entrance of what we suppose to be a salting factory". A place where, he assures, there is much work to be done. "We have to excavate many cubic meters of earthwe have located several phases of occupation, which also confirms the occupation of Islamic medieval period on the island, but mainly because of the remains of the time of the Late Romanwhere we have excavated structures more than two meters high", explains Juan de Dios Hernández, who details some of the findings: "A warehouse, which opens up the expectations of a commercial enclave".
